Thoughts on Auditing

The auditing profession has some serious challenges. The auditors of public companies have been unable to find the frauds that existed in major corporations such as Enron, WorldCom and others. Government auditors are often constrained by political appointees who are not interested in the opinions of  career professional auditors. As such, they often do not pursue issues that are in the public interest.

This blog will begin to expose the challenges the auditing profession confronts and offer solutions to those challenges.

It will also offer an opportunity for all of you to suggest areas that should be explored and exposed. You can contact me on an anonymous basis at dave@davehancox.com. Just let me know you want the information offered to be confidential.

  1. Why haven't there been any audits of the re-building of the World Trade center?

  2. Has there ever been an audit of the no-bid contract for NY State's Empire Plan? Seems to me that Empire Blue Corss and United Health Care have had the contract for decades w/o any open bidding.
